FNAF 4 is set in 1983. The player controls a little boy bullied by his older brother. He has severe fear of the animatronics from Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. Every night after he falls asleep, nightmare animatronics invade his bedroom. There are four dangerous spots: left door, right door, closet and under the bed. From midnight to 6 AM, players must listen carefully for breathing and footsteps to close doors for defense. The ending reveals the boy was forced into Golden Freddy’s mouth by his brother and friends at a birthday party. This incident is known as the Bite of 83; the boy was fatally injured and eventually died.

This game distinguishes the Bite of 83 from the Bite of 87, completing the Afton family tragedy and telling the earliest story in FNAF timeline.
